A French Construction Product Page With Useful Carbon Evidence

Building-material samples being examined at a laboratory bench

A construction product page should let a French specifier answer three questions quickly: is this the correct product, does it meet the technical requirement, and which environmental record applies? Carbon evidence belongs beside product identity and performance, not in a detached sustainability page.

The page also needs to distinguish a verified declaration from a company target or general environmental statement.

What belongs on a French construction product page?

Put the exact product identity, application, technical performance, FDES reference, declared unit, service life, scope, installation requirements and current downloads on one maintained page. Link to the official INIES entry so the reader can verify the declaration.

Page section Minimum useful content Common failure
Product identity Name, code, variant and status One page covers several unclear products
Application Suitable uses and limits Broad claims without conditions
Performance Values, units, standards and classifications Values spread across old PDFs
Carbon evidence FDES ID, unit, service life, validity and INIES link One carbon figure with no lifecycle context
Installation Build-up, quantities, waste and interfaces Evidence assumes an unstated installation
Documents Current data sheet, FDES, certificates and details Duplicate files with no revision date
Enquiry Product and project fields carried into the form Generic form loses the selected product

Put the evidence near the decision

Do not hide the FDES under a corporate sustainability menu. Place a short evidence panel after the core technical specification, with the full declaration available as a document and through the INIES database.

The panel should state:

  • declaration title and identifier
  • declaration owner
  • validity period
  • product references covered
  • declared or functional unit
  • reference service life
  • individual or collective status
  • verification status
  • direct INIES link

INIES explains in its FDES guidance that declarations contain life-cycle and health information and follow EN 15804 with the French national supplement. The website should preserve that context rather than extracting the most attractive number.

Use an annotated page structure

1. Product header

Use the exact commercial product name, a plain description and one primary image showing the installed use or product form. Add status and revision date. Do not use an aspirational headline in place of identification.

2. Application and limits

List suitable building types, substrates, environments and system roles. Put exclusions beside the positive uses. This reduces unsuitable enquiries and prevents environmental evidence from being applied outside the product's intended function.

3. Comparable technical data

Present specifications in a consistent table. Every value needs a unit and, where relevant, a test or classification basis. Keep the same fields and order across a product family so buyers can compare variants.

4. Environmental evidence

Show the declaration information above. If a product has project-specific evidence, explain how it relates to the standard declaration. Do not label a company-level reduction target as product performance.

5. Installation and system build-up

Show dimensions, coverage, accessories, compatible components and site conditions that change quantity or performance. Include a detail drawing where it prevents ambiguity.

6. Controlled downloads

Files need human-readable names, revision dates and a clear owner. If a certificate or declaration expires, the site should make the update visible across every page using it.

Make the page maintainable

The visible design cannot compensate for unmanaged source data. Create a product record with defined fields and document relationships. Then use that record for page content, comparison tools and enquiry forms.

Data owner Fields to maintain Review trigger
Product management Name, status, range and application Product or range change
Technical Performance and installation Test, standard or detail change
Sustainability FDES identity, scope and validity New or renewed declaration
Marketing Images, summary and related projects Approved content update
Sales Contact route and project questions Routing or market change

This ownership model matters because France's RE2020 rules and product records change over time. The Ministry's RE2020 page is the official starting point for current building-scope information. A supplier page should link to evidence, not attempt to interpret every project obligation.

Check the page with a real specification task

Before launch, give a technical colleague a short brief and ask them to identify the product, confirm performance, locate the declaration and send an enquiry. Observe where they need another document or clarification.

Page review checklist

  • One URL represents one clear product or controlled family
  • Product codes match current documents
  • Application limits are visible
  • Specifications use consistent units
  • FDES identifier and INIES link are correct
  • Unit, service life and scope are stated
  • Documents show revision and validity
  • Installation information supports quantity and performance
  • Enquiry includes the product reference
  • Page owner and next review date are recorded

A good page does not ask a specifier to choose between technical proof and clear design. Creatif Work designs construction websites that make both work together. Our website service can turn product data and controlled documents into a maintainable publishing system, while our guide to spec sheets as web pages shows how to make the core data searchable and usable.
